The Brother XL2600i that we got for my mom for her birthday present is already coming in handy. She is hoping to start making a costume for me this weekend. I have been trying to figure out what kind of costume I want her to make for me. I am thinking about either a medieval costume, a Roman Centurion costume, or something from the movie 300. I love the costumes that they wore in the movie 300, but I don’t think I have the body yet for it. Unless you have a lot of muscles I don’t think that costume looks very good. In fact you will probably get made fun of quite a bit if you wore it in public. I was also considering a pirate costume because I had just watched “Pirates of the Caribbean” the other night and this reminded me how cool I think there costumes really look.

Recently I attended a packaging expo conference where me and three coworkers were supposed to network with as many packaging machine designers as we possibly could over the next three days. The goal was to find some contacts that could assist us with projects later in the year. On day one I noticed that I was having a hard time getting people to talk with me for more than just one minute. Later that night when telling my coworkers, they explained that it was because I wasn’t wearing a name badge. Two years ago a woman named Barbara Sager died of breast cancer and her husband of thirty years was devastated at the loss. They also had two adult sons, she cultivated a garden in the back yard of the family home and she had a huge stack of quilting blocks that resembled all of the beautiful flowers she cultivated. One of the things that her husband would often think about after her death was the Quilt Fabric panels that he would spread all over the floor just to look at how beautiful and complex they were.
About six months after the death of his wife, her husband, Gary, happened to strike up a conversation with a neighbor who owned a fabric store where Barbara had been a regular customer before her death. Gary asked the shop owner if she knew of any local quilters who might be interested in using any of the quilting materials that his wife had left behind. Gary knew that there was a group of quilters who met on a regular basis at the fire station in town.
Gary brought the quilting pieces to the group of quilters and they decided that the best way to honor Barbara’s memory would be to finish the quilt that she had started. Now the quilt will be featured at a large quilting show and will be one of two hundred works of art displayed during the three day show. The Asheville Guild will be holding its twenty-ninth annual Quilt Show and will be featuring Barbara’s quilt.
